The critic who wrote the liner notes for the original vinyl album had this to say about Luis & this song: "Also, pay particular attention to the presentation of 'It’s You or No One.' You’ll hear how DeMatteo magnificently blends his voice with the instrumental ensemble. When he sings the same melodic patterns that the ensemble is playing his voice has horn-like qualities; when the arrangement no longer calls for this effect, Nicky changes his sound, and the transition is beautiful."

In 1957 he won the Arthur Godfrey Talent Scout show & began his professional recording career, appearing on American Bandstand twice.
